4 Ways Your Personal Fitness Program Will Help the Team You Lead

There are a plethora of benefits to exercising consistently. We all know this. Especially leaders. It is a discipline that we all struggle with at different times.  We know we should be doing it but find it getting crowded out by things that seem more important. However, our physical health is pretty important if we want to last in leadership and have the required energy. It is only bolstered by a consistent fitness program. It has a lot of personal benefits.

But have you ever thought about how your fitness could benefit those you lead?

Here are four ways your personal fitness benefits those who follow you.

1. It creates a better working environment.

It’s common knowledge that regular exercise is a de-stressor. It rids your mind and physical body of stress. The pressure of leading has to go somewhere. The working atmosphere has much less negative tension if “The Leader” isn’t overwhelmed with stress.

2. It creates an upbeat attitude in your team

Exercise truly does help you physically feel better. When you are not dragging and worn out halfway through the day, it results in a more positive attitude. We all know the attitude of the leader has big impact on the attitude of the team. If the leader is upbeat, the tram is upbeat, creating an upbeat culture.

3. It creates fresh ideas.

When we consistently exercise, let our minds get free of all the details of the day and just run, hike, box, or whatever fits us. I find that it clears your mind and releases a good feeling in your body, and that combination instigates some great fresh thinking. I’ve gotten great ideas, solutions to problems, and innovations when I wasn’t trying to. I was exercising.

4. It creates a value of personal discipline.

When we discipline ourselves in one area, it has a domino and compounding effect on other areas of our lives and the lives of those who follow us. I know the words discipline and consistency seem boring and hard, but success is built on the back of these “boring, hard” concepts.

So, if this is a struggle for you like it is for me, maybe knowing that it’s not just about the personal benefits to you but also the amazing benefits it creates for your team will help you get motivated.
